This is a fantastic piece. I'd never heard of fishing for shearwaters before and the illustration you found of the practice is incredible.

So nice of you to say! Yeah-shocking, right? I should edit and add sourcing but the illustration was included in the original government report! Struggling to articulate why I’m so repelled by it when I’m alright doing the exact same thing to fish

One of the worst things I've ever seen was at the Seattle Art Museum in the "first nations" or "indigenous" or whatever they were calling it that year wing.

It was a huge cape, easily 7 feet long and as wide, entirely covered with puffin beaks. They were sewn on in a way that I assumed would make them clack and rattle as the wearer walked.

I think we were supposed to react with enthusiasm at the Native Art, but I found it absolutely horrendous to view and worse to contemplate.

Granted, if I were given the choice between saving the last puffin and the last human, my species would be SOOL.
